Saving |
The biggest problem facing people at this stage of their lives is the temptation
of buying assets such as cars, audio and audio visual equipment, appliances etc before they have saved the cash to pay for them. This discipline is important. Once you have succumbed to the temptation of using credit once, it becomes increasingly easier as time goes on. Before too long you will be using credit not only to fund the purchase of assets but also to fund a lifestyle you cannot afford. You know you are in trouble when you your overdraft is as a result of your consumption and not simply to bridge a gap between planned income and planned expenditure. The preparation of a personal budget is essential. Without it, you will not have the discipline to ensure that your expenditure does not exceed your income. The Chinese believe that when preparing your personal budget, you should start with an item called saving. If you were to take 10% of your take-home-pay and set that aside before you start on groceries, clothing, entertainment etc., you will have started your financial journey through life on the right foot. |
